During the war between Israel and Hamas, one of the most harrowing images of Israeli hostage captivity circulated: a young man reduced to an almost skeletal figure, his appearance reminiscent of Nazi concentration camps, forced by his captors to dig what could become his own grave. It was Evyatar David. The photograph provoked horror. But now, after regaining his freedom, David was able to tell what lay behind that scene.
