Husband of woman missing in Bahamas has been released from police custody
Authorities say the investigation remains active and the U.S. Coast Guard has opened a criminal probe as search teams continue looking for Lynette Hooker.
- On Monday, Bahamian authorities face a 7:20 p.m. deadline to charge or release 59-year-old Brian Hooker in connection with his wife Lynette's disappearance after she allegedly fell overboard near Elbow Cay on April 4.
- Brian Hooker claims that on April 4, Lynette fell off their 8-foot dinghy amid winds around 20 mph near Elbow Cay, forcing him to paddle four miles to Marsh Harbour Boat Yards before notifying police.
- Attorney Terrel Butler stated that Brian Hooker "categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing," while daughter Karli Aylesworth expressed suspicion the disappearance was "probably preplanned."
- Investigators questioned Hooker Friday for more than three hours about potential murder charges; however, no body has been recovered and Butler noted there is "so far no evidence" linking his client to a crime.
- Challenging weather conditions, including gusts exceeding 40 mph, hampered search efforts as Royal Bahamas Defense Force Cmdr. Origin Deleveaux confirmed that land, air, and sea searches for Lynette Hooker remain ongoing.
