Husband of missing American woman in the Bahamas leaves country, lawyer says
Authorities are still searching for Lynette Hooker after her husband left the Bahamas and said he will return while the investigation continues.
- Brian Hooker, husband of missing American woman Lynette Hooker, has left the Bahamas, his attorney Terrel Butler confirmed on Wednesday. His lawyer said Hooker departed on a commercial flight but declined to disclose his destination.
- Authorities were told by Hooker that Lynette Hooker fell from their eight-foot dinghy while the couple was sailing from Hope Town to Elbow Cay on the evening of Saturday, April 4. Police said he paddled to Abacoa and docked at Marsh Harbor Boat Yard around 4 a.m. Sunday, April 5.
- Bahamian authorities took Hooker into custody last Wednesday for questioning and released him on Monday after prosecutors recommended no charges be filed pending further investigation. He told NBC News hours after release that he "would never harm" his wife.
- Butler said Hooker left "because his mom is very ill," though stepdaughter Karli Aylesworth stated the departure "shows he's not much of a man of his word." Aylesworth plans to travel to the Bahamas on Thursday to continue investigating.
- Aylesworth has called for "an intensive review of the facts and circumstances" surrounding her mother's disappearance, citing Lynette Hooker's experience as an avid sailor. Officials continue searching as the investigation remains open pending further developments.
