Hurricane Lorena brings heavy rain and flooding to parts of Mexico
As Hurricane Lorena churned off the west coast of Mexico's Baja peninsula, its outer bands dropped heavy rain on areas like Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos. Watch this video to see how some streets were filled with mud and debris after flash floods swept away cars and pushed into some buildings.
The Government of Mexico, through the National Water Commission (Conagua), implemented water pumping operations in Baja California Sur, Sonora and Sinaloa, to evict, so far, about 34,500 cubic meters (m3) of rainwater and, with this, contribute to caring for the population affected by the rains caused by tropical cyclone Lorena.
Hurricane Lorena weakened to a tropical storm after moving away from Baja California Sur. However, authorities are maintaining alerts in the region due to the ongoing risks of heavy rains and adverse maritime conditions. Alerts remain in effect in Mexico following Hurricane Lorena.
