Fidesz and the KDNP did not participate in the election of the five candidates because they consider the method by which Tisza made room for its candidates illegitimate.
The composition of the Constitutional Court has undergone a significant transformation after the Parliament elected five new members to the body following the summer amendment of the Fundamental Law. The vote was boycotted by Fidesz-KDNP, while the new rules rewrote not only the length of the judges' mandates, but also the election of the President of the Constitutional Court.
Miklós Ligeti, Nóra Chronowski, András György Kovács, Árpád Gábor Orosz and Zsolt Szomora will join the board for 9 years.
Miklós Ligeti is also among the candidates of the ruling party faction.
The Constitutional Court of Hungary is composed of 15 persons; elections were held after the expiration of five judges ' terms; Parliament had previously adopted the 17th amendment to the Constitution, which reduced the term of office of judges of the Constitutional Court from 12 to 9 years and set a limit on the age of office.
