Hundreds gather in Akron to protest against Trump administration, Los Angeles ICE raids
- Several hundred people gathered on Wednesday evening, June 11, 2025, in Akron, Ohio, to peacefully protest ICE raids in Los Angeles and President Trump's immigration policies.
- The protest followed increased federal immigration raids in Los Angeles last week, which separated families and raised legal and humanitarian concerns.
- The demonstration, coordinated by the Akron chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation along with additional local organizations, included chants and signs opposing ICE and expressing support for immigrant communities across the country.
- Carly Riggins said, “What ICE is doing... is violence,” adding, “We are ready to fight back,” while about 7% of Akron residents are foreign-born.
- The demonstration concluded safely without proceeding to a march, and organizers announced plans for additional protests throughout Ohio and nationwide on June 14, coinciding with President Trump’s birthday parade and military celebration.
