Hull City: Sergej Jakirovic says Tigers are living the dream
Substitutes Mohamed Belloumi and Joe Gelhardt scored as Hull City ended Millwall’s promotion bid and booked a Wembley date.
On Monday, Hull City defeated Millwall 2-0 at The Den, securing a spot in the Championship play-off final. Substitutes Mohamed Belloumi and Joe Gelhardt scored the decisive goals to end the Lions' Premier League aspirations.
Finishing the regular season in sixth place, Hull City entered the semi-final as underdogs following a goalless first leg. The visitors overcame an intimidating atmosphere at the sold-out stadium to silence the home crowd.
Belloumi broke the deadlock in the 64th minute with a curling strike before Gelhardt sealed the victory in the 79th minute. Both players had climbed off the bench to secure the 2-0 aggregate win.
Hull City will now travel to Wembley Stadium on May 23 for the play-off final. They face either Middlesbrough or Southampton, who meet on Tuesday to determine the second finalist.
Winning at Wembley would mark the club's return to the top flight for the first time in nine years. The Tigers aim to emulate the 2008 and 2016 squads that previously achieved promotion.
