In a letter addressed to Mayor Luis Martínez and regional governor Marcelo Santana they reported the serious unemployment situation that afflicts Huichas Islands, in the Aysén Region The surroundings of the town are full of salmon concessions, where companies such as AquaChile, Blumar, Camanchaca, Invermar, Mowi, Cermaq, Australis Mar, MultiX have more than 300 centers in the Las Guaitecas National Reserve and the Isla Magdalana National Park.
