Hudson woman charged with animal cruelty after puppies found in hazardous conditions, police say
Prosecutors say 18 dogs were found in one car and 14 more in another, and a veterinarian ruled one death was heat stroke.
- On Friday, the Orange County District Attorney's Office charged 33-year-old Priscilla Martin with animal cruelty after authorities discovered dozens of dogs in dire conditions across the region, including 14 found in her car on July 22 in Costa Mesa.
- Newport Beach police initiated the investigation on the Fourth of July after receiving reports of dogs locked in a vehicle; the inquiry later linked Martin to a dead dog discovered in Irvine on July 13.
- Officers found 18 dogs inside Martin's car covered in feces without water, while security footage captured her abandoning a dead dog in Irvine bushes that a veterinarian determined died of heat stroke.
- Despite the Orange County District Attorney's Office requesting $50,000 bail, a judge released Martin without posting bail; she faces up to 15 years and 10 months in prison if convicted on all charges.
- While awaiting trial, Martin is prohibited from possessing animals, as Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer emphasized that animal abuse will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
