Mass. Animal Shelters Waiving Adoption Fees for some Cats, Dogs This Weekend

MASSACHUSETTS, JUL 17 – Massachusetts shelters waive fees for older cats and dogs with medical or behavioral needs to reduce overcrowding, MSPCA-Angell and partners said.

  • This Friday, MSPCA-Angell and its coalition partners will waive adoption fees for some cats and dogs, according to MSPCA-Angell, to address overcrowding.
  • Overcrowding prompted MSPCA-Angell to waive adoption fees, including for older cats and those with medical or behavioral needs, to reduce shelter numbers.
  • Across Massachusetts, coalition partners include Berkshire Humane Society, Worcester Animal Rescue League and Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, including participation from MSPCA-Angell’s shelters in Boston, Methuen, Salem and Centerville.
  • Starting July 21, MSPCA-Angell will launch a week-long fee-free adoption event for all dogs age one and older, including some recently brought in from Texas.
  • Adding to the effort, Dogs Trust in Newbury has appealed to potential adopters, highlighting Sulley, a three-year-old hound recently rescued in Penrith.
