Have You Been 'Flocked'? Here's How to Find Out
HaveIBeenFlocked.com compiles FOIA logs from 6,586 agencies and shows whether an operator searched a plate, though the data set is incomplete.
A new website called "Have I Been Flocked" allows drivers to check if their license plate appears in public search records from the Flock Safety system. As of August 17, the database compiled nearly 242 million searches involving more than 4.6 million plates.
Flock Safety operates a vast network of automated license plate reader cameras across the country, with rapid expansion sparking privacy concerns and community backlash as the technology becomes increasingly visible in neighborhoods nationwide.
Records show more than 4.6 million license plates appearing in roughly 242 million Flock searches, though the database has significant limitations; results may be delayed months or years and are often redacted or incomplete.
Flock Safety CEO Garrett Langley announced last week that the company will shorten default data retention from 30 days to seven, responding to reports that law enforcement officers misused the system to stalk individuals.
The American Civil Liberties Union called the retention change a "step in the right direction," but noted that Flock remains responsible for "building the door" to months of private location data.
