How Sphere Reimagined Audio For ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ To Help The Movie ‘Break New Ground’ Again

The Wizard of Oz will launch an exclusive, limited-time run at the Sphere in Las Vegas starting August 28, 2025, featuring a newly reimagined immersive presentation.
Sphere Studios partnered with Warner Bros. to reconstruct the 1939 film’s mono soundtrack and augment the visual component with generative AI to fit the venue’s scale.
The score was re-recorded on the original Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage by over 80 musicians using authentic 1930s style and some original instruments like the ocarina.
Paul Freeman called Judy Garland’s singing in the new mix "the definitive" version and highlighted the venue’s 167,000 speakers and infrasound seats that vibrate to place audiences within scenes.
The project preserves the original’s integrity while pushing immersive audio boundaries, suggesting it could serve as a model for future film transformations at Sphere.
