Every year thousands of people succumb to the heat. However, not immediately, many die only days or weeks later. The official figures describe only the peak of the health burden.
The Robert Koch Institute estimates 9800 deaths: The number of people who died from heat this year is already greater than in every single year since 2016.
In this year, 9,800 people died because of high temperatures throughout Germany, which has exceeded the number of each year since 2016.
