How Companies in Europe Are Struggling to Recruit Workers From Outside the EU
The EU Talent Pool will help SMEs recruit non-EU workers as 54% of employers who hired abroad said the process was difficult, the Commission said.
- The European Commission is launching the EU Talent Pool, a platform for international recruitment designed to help ease persistent skill shortages across the bloc.
- Small and medium-sized enterprises , representing 99 percent of all businesses, face labor shortages, with about 84 percent of occupations experiencing deficits in at least one Member State.
- Recruitment outside the EU remains "limited" and "too difficult," as 31 percent of companies cite complex administrative procedures as primary barriers, with 54 percent of recruiters finding the process "difficult."
- Magnus Brunner, Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, said the survey results "clearly shows that we must help our businesses to attract talent" through simplified procedures and reduced red tape.
- Recently, the Commission proposed a new visa policy asking EU countries to make procedures "simpler and faster" for skilled workers, complementing the Talent Pool initiative.
