How Americans are using AI at work, according to a new Gallup poll

AI use is rising rapidly with 12% of U.S. workers using it daily and about 6 in 10 technology workers using AI frequently, Gallup says.

  • Gallup's latest quarterly poll of 22,368 employed U.S. adults shows 12% use AI daily at work, with roughly one-quarter using it at least frequently and nearly half a few times a year.
  • The commercial boom around ChatGPT and active promotion by the AI industry and the U.S. government helped accelerate adoption of generative AI tools in workplaces and schools.
  • On-the-Job users describe AI helping with tasks like Gene Walinski at Home Depot using an assistant hourly, and Andrea Tanzi at Bank of America using Erica daily, to synthesize data.
  • Experts warn that a sizable vulnerable group faces adaptation challenges, as Sam Manning identified 6.1 million workers, mostly administrative and clerical women, while half say job loss from AI is 'not at all likely.'
  • Indicators suggest the breakneck growth of 2024–2025 may be tapering, as technology sector workers increased AI use sharply since 2023 while professional services, colleges and universities, and K-12 education show broad but uneven adoption.
