How a breast cancer diagnosis led one woman to the pageant stage
Wright says her breast cancer diagnosis inspired her pageant run and her push for mammograms, after winning Ms. Senior Guilford County.
On Oct. 11, Sondra Wright, winner of Senior Guilford County, represented North Carolina at the Senior America national pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Following a breast cancer diagnosis, Wright pledged to engage more actively in life, prompting her to join the Senior Guilford County pageant.
Using her platform to advocate for mammograms, Wright calls her diagnosis a "59th birthday present" because she understands it "as a gift," Wright said.
During her year as titleholder, Wright said, "It was a beautiful year," as she supported community initiatives impacting older adults, youth, and women.
Wright, a proud survivor, emphasizes that "mammograms save lives" and encourages others to prioritize medical checkups even without symptoms.
