The Houthis of Yemen claimed responsibility for the attacks on the capital of Saudi Arabia. For the first time since the conflict began in July, the Saudi Government was forced to activate air strikes alerts throughout the country, and fighting between the internationally recognized Government and the rebel group also continues in Yemeni territory, threatening thousands of civilians.
The United States warned on Saturday that hostilities by the Saudi- and Iranian-backed Houthis could "rapidly escalate," the warning came after a missile attack on Riyadh, the first since the renewed conflict in Yemen.
