UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, WASHINGTON D.C., JUL 18 – House rejects amendment to cut $500 million in military aid for Israel's missile defense, with only six members supporting the measure amid concerns over U.S. debt and Israel's military actions.
- Just after midnight Friday, the US House of Representatives rejected Greene’s amendment to cut $500 million in aid to Israel, with a 422-6 vote.
- On July 17, 2025, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene questioned, saying `We can never climb out of`, after noting the United States' $37 trillion debt, that Americans can't afford rent or homes.
- Only six members broke ranks—two Republicans and four Democrats—including Summer Lee of Pennsylvania and AIPAC-independent Al Green.
- In response, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee described the amendment as 'reckless', and said the vote reinforced bipartisan support for Israel.
- Following the vote, the 2026 defense spending bill heads to the Senate and must be reconciled with the House’s legislation before presidential approval.
