House Democrat: Hegseth testosterone screenings indicative of ‘homoeroticism’
Balint said the screening plan reflects Hegseth’s hypermasculine politics as the Pentagon said it will require annual tests for troops 30 and older.
On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Becca Balint criticized Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's new testosterone initiative, comparing his cultivated "rugged macho man" image to hypermasculine figures drawn by artist Tom of Finland.
Hegseth announced the mandatory testosterone screening program Wednesday for service members age 30 and older, promoting it as part of a "High-T Department of War" to keep troops "strong, resilient and capable."
Balint linked the initiative to Hegseth's personnel decisions, citing reports he removed nine officers from a Navy promotion list, leaving an all-male group of 22 advancing to one-star admiral.
She stressed the administration's stated merit-based system contradicts its actions, alleging officials hold "weird, intense, homoerotic feelings towards men" while engaging in "fear mongering" about LGBTQ+ people.
The Pentagon has not disclosed the program's estimated cost, the testosterone level considered deficient, or how policy applies to women; critics argue it contradicts efforts to restrict gender-affirming care.
