Hospices to receive more than £2.8million for major upgrades to facilities

ENGLAND, JUL 21 – More than 170 hospices across England will share £75 million to upgrade facilities and improve end-of-life care amid ongoing financial challenges, Hospice UK said.

  • Last week, Stephen Kinnock announced £75 million shared by 170 hospices across England for major facility upgrades.
  • Amid a £60 million shortfall last year, hospices across England rely on charity contributions for about two thirds of their funding, highlighting sector funding challenges.
  • Across Surrey, three hospices will share around £2 million, with Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham set to receive £827,194 and Princess Alice Hospice in Esher to get £792,957.
  • The £500,000 awarded to Wigan & Leigh Hospice will be used to fix a leaking roof, install a new heating system and create a memory garden.
  • Highlighting future needs, the CEO warned, `long-term reform is critical`, noting that funding for 2025/26 must be sustainable.
