Hosepipe ban for Hampshire and Isle of Wight
Southern Water said one million people are affected, as critically low river levels and a record heatwave strain supplies.
Southern Water announced a Temporary Use Ban effective 00:01 on July 10, affecting one million residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight from using hosepipes for gardens, paddling pools, and car washing.
Record-Breaking temperatures and England's warmest spring on record drove River Test levels to 25 per cent below normal; flows are significantly lower than predictive models anticipated.
Since January, Southern Water repaired 2,840 leaks across the region, saving approximately 27 million litres of water daily through smart technology and drone detection methods.
Residents are urged to swap hosepipes for watering cans or buckets, with exemptions available for those on the Priority Services Register or WaterSure scheme with health or mobility needs.
This marks the second consecutive year of restrictions as Southern Water invests in long-term solutions, including a new reservoir, water transfer pipelines, and water recycling schemes to address recurring supply challenges.
