Toddler Abduction At NoVA Mall Caught On Surveillance Video
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, JUL 18 – Andres Caceres Jaldin, a violent felon with no fixed address, was charged after attempting to abduct a toddler who wandered from a play area at a Fairfax mall, police said.
- On July 18, 26-year-old Andres Caceres Jaldin attempted to abduct a toddler at Fair Oaks Mall in Virginia before the child's parents intervened and safely recovered her.
- The abduction followed Jaldin stealing a vehicle from a nearby auto repair shop earlier that day, and he fled the mall before police arrived but was tracked to a Chantilly hotel and arrested.
- Police charged Jaldin with abduction of a minor, a Class 2 felony, and grand larceny related to the stolen vehicle, and released surveillance video of the incident to raise community awareness.
- Authorities revealed Jaldin has a long criminal history including violent offenses against family members, and Fairfax officials stated he poses a public safety threat and could face 20 years to life if convicted.
- Andres Caceres Jaldin remains in custody at the Fairfax County Detention Center without the option for bail, with a preliminary hearing planned for August 21 as authorities continue to evaluate his mental health and the potential threat he poses to the community.
