Over £100,000 raised for boy, 3, in croc attack

The fundraising page for the injured child has passed £105,000 as his family says he has had seven operations and is smiling again.

  • On June 18, a three-year-old boy was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons in Old Hurst, Cambridgeshire. A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was "assessed as not being fit for interview."
  • The child underwent a 12-hour operation after admission to hospital, including a nerve graft to repair damage to his left arm. He has endured seven surgeries since the incident at Johnsons as surgeons addressed tendon, nerve, blood vessel and bone injuries.
  • Fundraising efforts for the family have surpassed £105,000 via a GoFundMe page set up to support the boy's recovery and rehabilitation. The total includes a top donation of £2,500 from an anonymous contributor.
  • In an update shared on Wednesday, the boy's family said he is now "talking to the nurses, playing using his feet and smiling again." They remain "hopeful" the recent operation "will be the last for now" and they can soon go home.
  • Police launched an investigation into the care arrangements of the suspect, who reportedly has learning difficulties and was visiting the zoo with carers when the incident occurred in Huntingdonshire. Authorities continue to examine how the incident happened.
