Hong Kong exchange to launch Shein derivatives after trading debut next week

  • On Tuesday, September 1, Hong Kong's bourse operator, HKEX, will allow short selling of Shein shares and launch weekly and monthly options and derivative warrants for the fast-fashion retailer.
  • Fast-Fashion retailer Shein is set to price its initial public offering at HK$48.56 a share, Reuters reported on Thursday, valuing the company at roughly $26.5 billion.
  • Options contracts will feature a size of 500 shares, with weekly derivatives expiring on September 4 and September 11. HKEX notified warrant issuers they may list instruments on Shein shares immediately.
  • The simultaneous launch of derivatives and short-selling provides investors with immediate hedging tools, aiming to boost liquidity and price discovery for the newly listed stock.
  • Monthly options contracts will expire through next year in September, October, November, and December, with additional expirations scheduled for March, June, and September 2027, offering long-term coverage for Shein investors.
