Honda to import two U.S.-made models for Japan sale in latter half of 2026
Honda will sell U.S.-made Passport TrailSport Elite and Acura Integra Type S as left-hand-drive models in Japan using a simplified import process under a Japan–U.S. tariff deal.
- On March 5, 2026, Honda Motor Co. said it will import two U.S.-manufactured models—the Honda Passport TrailSport Elite and Acura Integra Type S—for sale in Japan from the second half of 2026 using a Japan–U.S. tariff agreement framework.
- Facing heavy losses, Honda is reassessing its strategy after a 166.4 billion-yen operating loss and following strong reception at a Chiba exhibition in January, building on prior U.S.-produced vehicle reimports.
- The Passport TrailSport Elite, produced in Alabama, measures about 4.8 meters and emphasizes off-road capability, while the Acura Integra Type S, built in Ohio, is a Type S high-performance model; both will be sold in Japan as left-hand drive.
- Pricing remains undecided and volumes are expected to be small, while a company spokesperson declined to comment on prices and sales targets.
- Against a backdrop of U.S. import-duty pressure and policy pushes, The Yomiuri reported Honda plans to import EVs from China and will start Insight preorders on March 19, 2026.
