Homicide investigators probe gang links after 2 teens shot dead in B.C.
Investigators say the shooting was targeted and linked to the B.C. gang conflict, and no arrests have been made.
Two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, were shot and killed late Sunday in an underground parking lot at the 7000 block of 133B Street in Surrey's Newton neighbourhood.
Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack linked to the ongoing British Columbia gang conflict; a burned grey four-door sedan was recovered near 144 Street and 84 Avenue shortly after.
This double homicide followed an earlier Sunday shooting outside a gas station in the 7100 block of 152 Street; IHIT is seeking dashcam footage from both locations between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke expressed outrage, calling the violence "unacceptable and deeply troubling" and demanding an immediate review of the Surrey Police Service's decision to redeploy gang unit officers.
While no arrests have been made, investigators continue to pursue leads, and Police Chief Constable Norm Lipinski stated that addressing organized crime remains a paramount concern for the service.
