The Latvians' failure to complete the construction of Rail Baltic by the set deadline will cost Estonia dearly, said Auditor General Janar Holm. According to Sander Salmu, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate, Estonia is currently continuing railway construction at the planned pace and, compared to other European transport projects, Rail Baltic is progressing well.
The Estonian contractor for the Rail Baltica line is waiting for Latvia to make an official decision by September on whether to postpone the completion of the railway. Otherwise, the contractor will not be able to properly organize the work next year.
Representatives of the European institutions, Member States, the European Parliament, industry organisations and the Rail Baltica community met in Brussels to review the progress of Rail Baltica. According to the data presented, works are progressing simultaneously in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
