Mum and Son Forced Man Off Road as Judge Slams 'Revenge Attack'
The pair chased a chef for 13 miles before ramming his car into a tree, leaving him with shoulder and foot fractures, prosecutors said.
On Friday, Basildon Crown Court jailed mother Hollie Dance and son Thomas Summers for a 13-mile revenge chase in Essex. Dance received four years in prison, while Summers was sentenced to five years.
The pair targeted the driver after they 'believed the complainant in this case had been involved in an incident in which another member of their family had been hurt,' specifically Dance's daughter. Prosecutors revealed they mistakenly targeted the victim.
During the October 10, 2022, pursuit, Dance used her BMW to run the victim's Peugeot off the road, while Summers 'rammed into and sent him into a bush.' The victim sustained a fractured and dislocated shoulder and a foot fracture.
Defence counsel noted Dance endured 'harrowing months' following the August 2022 death of her son Archie Battersbee, but Recorder Peter Clark stressed that 'your response was completely unlawful, you sought revenge.'
Clark imposed a 43-month driving ban on Dance and a four-year ban on Summers. As they were led to the cells, Dance blew a kiss to the gallery while her son made a peace sign.
