Katherine Legge Is Ready Make Historic Attempt to Try and Complete Racing's 1,100-Mile 'Double'
Legge’s team has arranged helicopter and jet travel as she tries to become the first woman to finish the 1,100-mile double.
Katherine Legge, driver, is attempting to become the first female competitor to complete "The Double," racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, May 24.
Only five drivers have previously attempted the 1,100-mile marathon; three-time Cup champion Tony Stewart remains the sole driver to complete every lap, marking the 25th anniversary of his feat.
Legge's team arranged a helicopter ride from the track to Indianapolis International Airport and a private jet to Charlotte, drawing logistical advice from Kyle Larson, who attempted the challenge in 2024 and 2025.
With a 32% chance of thunderstorms forecast at the Indianapolis 500, Legge faces tight turnaround times before the 12:30 p.m. start, though she called the opportunity "once-in-a-lifetime."
After missing media day festivities on Thursday due to a flight delay, Legge remains determined to complete all laps, hoping to succeed where Kyle Larson's 2024 and 2025 attempts faced weather complications.
