The museum launches with 125 Universal Newsreel episodes and a $340,667.84 campaign to digitize thousands more historic films.
On Friday, Orlando-based nonprofit Historic Films Inc announced the grand opening of The Museum of Motion Picture Journalism, a free digital museum providing public access to collections from the National Archives.
Founder Jim Michael brings five decades of experience in national broadcast journalism, having worked with NBC News in Washington covering Presidents from Carter to George and events in Nicaragua.
The Museum launches on YouTube with 125 episodes of the Universal Newsreels series, aiming to democratize access to these unique film records of the 20th century.
Historic Films Inc is launching its first fundraising campaign seeking to raise $340,667.84 to convert thousands of remaining Universal Newsreels episodes from analog to digital format.
Individuals interested in supporting the digitization campaign can learn more about donation opportunities or contact Timothy McCarthy at Historic Films Inc for additional information.
