Historic Adra Tunnel above Naramata reopens for public use

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen announced the reopening of the restored 483-metre Adra Tunnel along the KVR Trail on May 21, 2025.
The century-old tunnel closed in the early 1990s due to unstable conditions worsened by deliberately set fires in 2010 and 2012 that destroyed timber supports.
Staff from the regional district collaborated over approximately three years with a Naramata community group called Woodwackers 2.0, representatives from the provincial body overseeing trails and recreation sites, and various local contractors to restore and reopen the tunnel.
Woodwackers 2.0 thanked donors, volunteers, and local businesses for their support, highlighting a $100,000 donation from George and Sylvia Melville toward making the restoration successful.
The reopening supports community advocacy, aiming to promote a healthy community, enhance the trail network, and unlock tourism and economic opportunities in the Okanagan region.
