- Swatantra Bhardwaj was detained in Bulandshahr after Cockroach Janta Party worker Nishu Aazad alleged he assaulted her father, Sanjay, during a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20. The complaint triggered his arrest in early September.
- In a widely circulated video, Bhardwaj claimed he "cracked the skull" of the activist's father, requiring 60 stitches. The Delhi Police initially described the injuries as "simple in nature," creating a factual contradiction.
- Authorities invoked the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, BNS Sections 351, 78, and 79, and the Information Technology Act. A separate POCSO Act case was also registered against him.
- During the proceedings, Counsel claimed the arrest followed "some political developments" and asserted the client acted in self-defense. The Patiala House Court remains seized of the matter as investigations continue.
