Hikers find mysterious stash of gold hidden on a mountain trail
- Two hikers found a stash of 598 gold coins and other valuables in an aluminum box in the Krkonoae Mountains, northeastern Czech Republic.
- The stash likely dates back to about 1921 or around 1945, but experts differ partly because the most recent coin is from 1921 and none are local.
- The collection comprises a set of ten gold bangles, seventeen cigar containers—two of which remain sealed—a powder compact, and a comb, with the total gold content weighing 3.7 kilograms.
- The gold coins, weighing 3.7 kilograms, have an estimated metal worth of around 8 million Czech koruna, which is roughly equivalent to $360,000, and the museum has been receiving various local rumors regarding the possible origins of the treasure.
