High School Student Injured in Bear Attack in Gifu (Kyodo News)

At around 7:15 pm on the 2nd, a 16-year-old male high school student was scratched on the head and back by a bear while walking home in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. He was taken to the hospital, but his injuries are not life-threatening. Including this latest incident, there have been 31 bear sightings in the city since April, and this is the first time this year that someone has been injured.
