Weather France placed six departments in red alert this Sunday for a "very high" danger of forest fires. The risk of fires is particularly strong for the south of France.
The canicule episode regresses and focuses on the southern half of the territory and the Atlantic facade, but the firefighters are mobilized in the face of an "extreme" risk of fire in the Aude, on the tenth day of the heat wave that is expected to hit at the end of Monday night.
East of the department of Aude, including the Corbières affected by the gigantic fire left on 5 August, will be in "extreme risk forest fires" on Sunday 17 August, a first in the department since 2016.
Six departments in the south of France will be on Sunday 17 August on a red alert for "very high fire risk". During the weekend, volunteers and gendarmes reinforce the preventive and surveillance operations in the forest massifs. Reportage in Gironde and in the Aude.
If the end of the heat wave is finally coming, the heat remains intense on much of France, forcing Météo-France to maintain the highest level of fire vigilance.
In the Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude, Hérault, Gard, Vaucluse and Bouches-du-Rhône, the risk of fire departures is particularly high this Sunday, August 17.
