High Bar First Nation and TNRD partially downgrade evacuation orders near Clinton-area wildfire

Residents of High Bar I.R. 1 can return home after officials said wildfire danger had passed, while orders remain for two nearby reserves.

  • High Bar First Nation rescinded the evacuation order for High Bar I.R. 1 on Saturday, allowing residents to return home for the first time since August 6. Kúkpi7 and Council determined the threat to life and safety has passed for the east side of the Fraser River.
  • The Thompson-Nicola Regional District downgraded evacuation orders for 69 properties in Area E to alert status on Friday, while two addressed properties at 1468 and 2628 were cleared entirely.
  • Llenllenéy'ten officials warned that High Bar Road from Jesmond Junction to High Bar I.R. 1 remains uncleared, with Cougar Point Road potentially damaged or blocked by fallen trees. Burned areas pose hazards including unstable soil and falling debris.
  • The Pear Lake wildfire is now estimated at 165,929 hectares, an increase of 82 hectares since Friday. Cooler conditions with 37 per cent relative humidity are moderating fire behaviour, though thunderstorms may bring patchy rain.
  • Residents can expect to see smoke within the fire perimeter over the coming weeks. Llenllenéy'ten officials noted the region's landscape has been shaped by recent climate events, including the 2019 Big Bar landslide and 2017 Elephant Hill wildfire, altering familiar wayfinding landmarks.
