- In the early hours of Wednesday, RadarOnline published a never-before-seen video showing Curtis say the racial slur while filming in Wyoming about two years ago; the episode aired in season nine in June 2025 without the slur.
- Curtis immediately acknowledged the mistake and begged the camera crew to delete the footage, while the off-camera crew laughed and Curtis appeared shocked by her own words in the unaired clip on set.
- HGTV removed the series from streaming and its site, scrubbing it from HBO Max and Discovery+; the network said the language 'does not align' with its values, and Instagram users called for removal, with Tonya Roshell writing, `We want her off the air @hgtv @hgtvhome`.
- Curtis apologized to TMZ, saying the word is wrong and not part of her vocabulary, and on her Instagram said she will focus on family and community while stepping back from her career.
