'He's always been my hero': Ohio bride gets married on hospital rooftop so her ailing dad could be there
Doctors at Cleveland Clinic helped move the ceremony after John Weidow’s cancer worsened and a blood clot threatened his chance to attend.
On May 17, Courtney Coccaro married Michael Coccaro at Cleveland Clinic, with hospital staff moving the ceremony to the rooftop to ensure her father, John Weidow, could attend.
Facing stage 4 melanoma that spread to his brain, John was originally scheduled to marry the couple in Pennsylvania on May 10. A blood clot sent him back to the hospital, forcing a final change.
Nurses at Cleveland Clinic arranged seating, decorations, and a wedding cake on the rooftop. Michael said the staff went "far beyond what anyone could have expected," with "They did a lot of stuff that they definitely didn't have to."
Courtney described the day as "a miracle," saying "the goodness to see in people" made the shared love "absolutely spectacular." The moment became one she will never forget.
John is now home in Pennsylvania with family, making the most of every day on Jeep rides and fishing trips. Courtney and Michael hope to start a family soon.
