QuakeCon Surprise: Heretic and Hexen Enhanced Remasters Are Now Available
NO LOC, AUG 7 – The remastered Heretic + Hexen bundle includes two new episodes, 117 campaign maps, and supports up to 16-player cross-platform multiplayer, priced at $14.99, Nightdive announced.
- Bethesda, id Software, and Nightdive Studios released a remastered collection called Heretic + Hexen on August 7, 2025, for multiple platforms including Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.
- The remasters followed Microsoft’s 2021 acquisition of ZeniMax Media, id Software’s parent company, and years of collaboration to update the classic 1994 and 1995 first-person shooters originally made by Raven Software.
- Heretic + Hexen features two newly developed episodes—one continuing Heretic’s story and another expanding Hexen’s world—along with updated font styles, a high-contrast mode for improved readability, online cross-platform multiplayer, local split-screen play, and support for mods created by the community from the moment of release.
- Developer Matthew Tropiano emphasized the significance of including mod support from the start, highlighting the abundant creativity within the community beyond their own work, while Andrew Hulshult delivered a complete remix of all the music tracks, significantly enriching the game's audio.
- The release revitalizes these cult classics with improved performance, up to 4K and 120 FPS support, new content, and accessibility features, aiming to engage both longtime fans and new players while keeping the games alive.

Like the improved versions of Doom and Quake released during previous QuakeCon events, the new $14.99 combo pack, titled Heretic + Hexen, is a free update for anyone who previously owned the titles on Steam or GOG.
