Tidaholm Prison is the first in Sweden to accept women in a class 1 institution with the highest security level. The reason is that more and more women are being convicted of serious crimes and the proportion of women in Swedish prisons increased at the end of 2024. “They probably think we are tougher here than they are used to,” says Correctional Service Inspector Camilla Alexandersson.
