Pacific Palisades Residents Brace for Powerful Storm and Mudslide Threat
Officials warn of debris flows near burn scars with up to 1.5 inches of rain forecast and evacuation orders in place from Monday night through Wednesday morning.
- On Tuesday, the National Weather Service warned a brief storm will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible flooding to Southern California, with the brunt arriving later Tuesday morning through afternoon.
- Amid the first appreciable rain in more than six months, the National Weather Service warned debris-flow chances have increased around the Eaton scar, Palisades scar and Bridge scar.
- Los Angeles police began knocking on doors Monday night to alert residents of about 120 homes under mandatory evacuation from 10 p.m. Monday night into early Wednesday morning.
- Capt. Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department warned, `This storm could bring localized flooding, debris flows, and power outages`, with over 16,000 outages reported in Los Angeles County.
- The storm may provide short-term relief by reducing fire risk even as crews stand ready; Gov. Gavin Newsom pre-positioned dozers, hand crews, rescue swimmers and helicopters in Ventura, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
