'Prolonged Spell' of Warm Weather Expected - Met Éireann
Forecasters warn of heat stress, drought and wildfire risks as daytime highs may reach 30C and the UV index turns very high.
Met Éireann issued a nationwide weather advisory on Tuesday for a prolonged hot spell, warning temperatures will climb above 30C this week. The advisory takes effect at midnight Wednesday and remains valid until July 14.
High pressure currently located south of Ireland is building a ridge northward, causing temperatures to soar through the week. Forecaster Ail Hankinson said this pattern will make sunshine more widespread across the country.
Daytime highs will "widely exceed" 25C, potentially reaching 30C by Friday, with a high UV index adding health risks. Met Éireann also noted potential thunderstorms, "potential drought concerns," and "potential forest fires" later this week.
Forecasters warn of "tropical nights" with temperatures staying above 15C, prompting The HSE to advise ventilating sleeping areas when cooler. Officials also caution the public to watch for heat stress and maintain hydration during the spell.
Water Safety Ireland warns that Irish waters remain cold enough to cause shock even in hot weather. Potential drought concerns may lead to water restrictions, similar to measures Uisce implemented in Cork last month.
