Temperatures are expected to stay above normals all week long, warns Météo-France, while 16 departments are placed on Monday in orange alertness to the heat wave.
The maximums will reach "36 °C at 39 °C over a large south-west quarter of the country, and 33 °C at 36 °C over the rest of the south half, to the Loire Valley, south of Brittany, and to the Ile-de-France", detailed the Meteorological Institute, according to which an extension of the orange vigilance to other departments is very likely.
Ardèche, Aude, Drôme, Gard, Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales, and Vaucluse are already under an orange heatwave warning on Sunday, with temperatures reaching up to 40°C. On Monday, the new departments affected will be Charente, Charente-Maritime, Dordogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne, Deux-Sèvres, and Vendée.
