Heathrow Sees Passengers Dip Amid Iran Conflict
Heathrow reported a 5.3% decline in passenger numbers last month, with 6.7 million travelers passing through the London hub amid Middle East conflict disruptions.
The airport linked the reduction to the ongoing impact of the Middle East conflict on travel patterns, though April remained the busiest month this year compared to 7.1 million passengers last year.
Transfer passenger numbers grew 10% last month compared to the same period last year, driven by travelers flying into London before connecting to Asia and Oceania destinations.
Heathrow chief executive Thomas Woldbye said the airport is supporting the Government and airlines with summer planning, with a full 2026 passenger forecast update due in June.
Despite short-term disruptions, Heathrow insisted "underlying demand remains resilient" as the airport adapts operations while navigating broader challenges affecting travel in the Middle East.
