SYSTEM OF A DOWN'S SERJ TANKIAN Covers DAVID BOWIE's "I'm Afraid of Americans" With Brendan Angelides
Serj Tankian sings on an experimental electronic version of David Bowie’s 1997 song, which will appear on Brendan Angelides’s album in August.
- Composer Brendan Angelides and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian released an experimental electronic cover of David Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans," reimagining the paranoid classic with a contemporary sound.
- Bowie and Eno wrote the original track 30 years ago; the accompanying music video uses motion capture to animate childhood photographs of Angelides and Tankian singing the track.
- The cover appears on Angelides' upcoming album Can You Feel the End Begin?, releasing August 14, and follows his acclaimed work composing for Netflix's 13 Reasons Why and Showtime's Billions.
- Tankian also featured on guitarist Tom Morello's single "Adjourn" earlier this year, while Angelides says the upcoming album explores "what happens to creative communities during authoritarian times."
- Angelides describes the song as capturing the "manic American psyche torn in every direction," a vision he realized through face-tracking and compositing childhood photographs for the visual accompaniment.
