San Francisco leads 182 cities evaluated on 41 health metrics including low obesity and strong access to parks, fitness, and healthy food, WalletHub reported.
- San Francisco and San Diego topped WalletHub's 2026 healthiest US cities ranking, with the report evaluating 182 cities across the United States based on health care, food, fitness, and green space metrics.
- Researchers assessed these 182 cities using 41 indicators, each graded on a 100-point scale, across four equally weighted categories while excluding surrounding metro areas from the analysis.
- San Francisco earned the top spot, bolstered by one of the nation's lowest obesity rates at nearly 18 percent, strong parks spending, and abundant vegetarian and gluten-free dining options.
- Ranking second, San Diego boasts the highest physical activity rate in the country at 87 percent of adults active in the past month, plus extensive hiking trails and farmers' markets.
- WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said, "Staying healthy is a personal responsibility," but noted that local access to high-quality health care, green space, and nutritious food significantly influences resident health outcomes.
