Older blood donors will increasingly disappear in the coming years. The offspring donate – but not often enough.
A 46-year-old man from Sibiu, who donates blood for decades, saved ten lives through his gesture. He gave, in the last 25 years, ten litres of blood. On Saturday, on the occasion of the World Day of the Blood Donor, the Sibian sent a message showing that he expects as many people as possible to start giving blood, because "implementation makes the difference".
Every seven seconds a blood donation is needed in Germany: 15,000 blood cans daily. Especially in the summer there are shortages. Why there is a lack of young donors in particular.
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day this Saturday, Federal Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) appealed to young people in particular to donate blood. Warken told the newspapers of the Funke Media Group (Saturday editions) that blood donations save lives. Anyone can rely on blood transfusions in an emergency or for surgery.
