Cats Board Hold Crisis Meeting over Concussion Deal
Geelong is preparing a response as the AFL examines a waiver that could expose the club to a major penalty.
Geelong must submit a formal response to the AFL by end of day Tuesday, August 11, regarding the secret concussion waiver signed by defender Jake Kolodjashnij, following a crisis board meeting on Monday.
Revelations emerged last Thursday regarding a waiver signed two years ago, in which Kolodjashnij agreed to waive rights for future legal action if he suffered brain injury, a deal unsighted by the league and AFLPA.
Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield acknowledged on Monday the club had "buggered up" the process, but defended CEO Steve Hocking as a man of integrity while urging patience during investigation.
Cats president Grant McCabe stated Monday the board met to discuss their response, emphasizing the club remains committed to providing players with the "highest standard of care and support."
AFL Chairman Craig Drummond apologized for the deal in a released statement, confirming he would not be involved in the league's assessment of the Kolodjashnij situation.
