Hawaii man accused of threatening to kill Michigan governor, ‘shoot up’ state Capitol
Prosecutors said Ronald Saville faces federal threats charges after allegedly emailing plans for a mass shooting at the state Capitol and a threat against Whitmer.
- Federal prosecutors charged 48-year-old Ronald Saville of Honolulu on Monday with transmitting interstate threats against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan State Capitol. Authorities arrested him in Abilene, Texas, on June 1.
- Saville allegedly emailed the Michigan State Police on May 9, threatening to "walk in with a gun at A.R. 15 and open fire and kill as many people as possible." He sent a second email to Whitmer warning that "Lancy, Michigan is never gonna be the same again."
- During a May 12 call with the FBI, Saville stated he wanted to kill Whitmer because of her political affiliation. He admitted conducting online research to plan a trip to Michigan and indicated he still intended to carry out the threat.
- If convicted, Saville faces up to five years in prison on each count, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release. He remains detained pending transportation to the District of Hawaii.
