Harry Potter TV Series Renewed for Second Season at HBO
The renewal follows HBO’s plan to adapt all seven Harry Potter books into seven seasons over about a decade.
HBO has officially greenlighted a second season of the Harry Potter series, renewing the fantasy adaptation before the first season premieres on December 25.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner cited accelerated production plans to prevent massive gaps between seasons, accounting for young actors who grow up quickly during extended breaks.
Succession alum Jon Brown has been elevated to co-showrunner for Season 2, continuing his collaboration with Gardiner from their Emmy-winning HBO drama.
Based on the book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second season will begin filming this autumn with production on the first season wrapping soon.
The renewal aligns with the network's plan to adapt all seven of author J.K. Rowling's books into seven seasons of television over the course of a decade.
